Mu Chapter 150th Anniversary

On Saturday, January 21st, 2023, members of Mu Chapter gathered once more in The Classic City to celebrate the 150th anniversary of the chapter’s charter. With over 250 attendees, the night was yet another special Saturday in Athens, as members shared stories, nicknames, and comradery in recognition of this milestone. We were honored to host Sigma Nu Regent Tim Huffmyer for this historic event who spoke of the gravity of our accomplishment as well as words of encouragement for an even better 150 years to come. Among the celebration and festivities of the night, Brother John Hearn challenged the chapter to raise the bar rather than becoming comfortable. Brother Hearn reminded everyone that in an ever-growing anti-greek life society, the options are to keep raising the bar to new heights or cease to exist. As the night concluded, bonds grew stronger, new memories were made, and members enjoyed a well-deserved celebration. However, when the dance floor cleared and the sun rose to a slow Sunday morning in Athens, all that remained of the festivities was the challenge of Brother Hearn not just to meet standards set by UGA IFC but to set the bar for chapters of all fraternities at the national level. Keystone Ski Trip

Between January 2nd-7th, 16 freshmen and sophomore members participated in PowDaze by Outside Life, an organization that organizes yearly ski trips out to Colorado for universities across the country.  With half the participants of the trip having never been skiing before, day one started with lots of falling, tumbling, slipping, sliding, close calls with trees, and collisions. However, by the end of the trip, everyone had become quite good, and onlookers had the pleasure of seeing a 16-man brigade charging down the mountain. Off the mountain, the group enjoyed a private Waka Flocka Flame concert, a selection of delicious restaurants, and plenty of barking, as the entire Ohio State Ski Club had the terrible luck of being paired with us just two days after the Peach Bowl. Pictured above are all members of the trip minus two, who may or may not have chosen to race down the mountain rather than wait for the group photo.

White Rose Formal

Between the 13th-15th of January, Mu Chapter once again celebrated its historic White Rose Formal in New Orleans, Louisiana. After what seemed like an eternity, the buses finally made it across Lake Pontchartrain and into the city. After check-in, members and their dates quickly unpacked, showered, and put on their dresses and tuxedos in preparation for reservations.  Once Curley Taylor and the Zydeco Trouble kicked off the festivities at The House of Blues in the heart of the French Quarter, the night was quickly filled with laughter, dancing, romance, pranks, and music on a fantastic Lousianna Friday night. As formal began winding down, the chapter enjoyed “chapter awards,” with Trey Willaims being named Brother of the Year. Shortly after, residents of the dance floor could hear Treasurer John D. Hawkins pleading with Curley to play outside his genre with “Freebird” as a sendoff. As members and their dates began filing out into the French Quarter streets, the tone was set for an unforgettable weekend. Above are members of the junior pledge class shortly before the event.

Back-To-Back

Following the Dawgs return to glory last season with a historic victory over Alabama in Indianapolis, Mu Chapter was honored to once again return to UGA football glory as Brother Graham Collins, an inside linebacker on the team, helped bring home the trophy. This year, Brother Collins again was a part of history and will forever be remembered among Georgia’s only two-time national champions in school history. If you see Graham, make sure to congratulate him, as one cannot even imagine the year-long sacrifice being a member of the Dawgs entails.
