Men of Honor

On Monday, October 12th, Mu chapter of Sigma Nu was honored with the presence of four chapter alumni who have each answered the call to defend our country by serving in the United States military. Doctors Lee Parker and Verner Chaffin, Jon McGavin, and Bobby Woods each spoke on their experiences being a brother of Sigma Nu and serving in the armed forces.

Dr. Parker recalled his tour of duty in WWII, in which he served as a combat medic. In fact, Dr. Parker is the only medic who served in D-Day still alive today.

Dr. Verner Chaffin served in WWII and in Korea as a member a Naval Intelligence team. During WWII, he served in the Pacific theatre working to break Japanese communication codes.

Jon McGavin served in the Air Force Reserve and was deployed during the First Gulf War as a Forward Air Controller.

Bobby Woods, who graduated from UGA in 2008, is currently serving as a Second Lieutenant in the Army. He recently completed Ranger training and will soon be deploying for a tour in Afghanistan.

We are all extremely grateful for the sacrifices these men have made for our country and are proud to be able to call them brothers of Mu chapter of Sigma Nu.
