Dear Alumni,

We are back for the 2019-2020 school year and are poised for a great semester. Check out the updates from the active chapter below!

September 29th –  Please join us for the initiation of the 2019 Fall Candidate Class on Sunday, September 29th at 1 pm. If you would like to attend please email me at mualumnichair@gmail.com and I will be happy to give more details.

November 9th – The active chapter invites all alumni and their families to tailgate at the house for the home game against Missouri. The alumni tailgate will consist of food, music and a brief program for active members and alumni. Please stay tuned for more details as we near the event.

As we gear up for the Bulldogs football season, we ask all alumni to come tailgate with us at the house! With prime location to the stadium we would love to have you make the Chateau your home base for game day .  If you are interested in parking passes for any games or have any questions, please reach out to Commander Bing Bishop at muchaptercommander@gmail.com

During the weekend of June 1st, many of our “Greatest Generation” alumni and their guests gathered in Jekyll Island for their annual reunion.  In addition to the Friday night cocktail hour and a Saturday dinner event, attendees enjoyed golf, fishing, and camaraderie by the resort pool. Many thanks to alumni Dedi Thomas (MU 1175) and Ronnie Waller (MU 1141) for their efforts in organizing the outing.

This group is planning a trip to Washington, D.C., in 2020.  If you are interested in traveling along, please contact Joel Stern at jstern40@gmail.com

The active chapter had the incredible opportunity to welcome Sigma Nu alumni Dick Craft (MU 1344) and Gerry Whitworth (MU 1492) back to the house to address the chapter. Accompanying them was Andy Kingery, a dear friend of theirs and a soon to be member of Sigma Nu. Mr. Kingery is set to be initiated with the fall of 2019 pledge class as a non-matriculate member. We spent our time getting to know Mr. Kingery as he informed the chapter of his life story and his desire to complete the process he started back in the late 1950s. We are honored to get to meet Mr. Kingery and are humbled to welcome him to Sigma Nu on September 29th.

In keeping with tradition, the active chapter brought back “Alamo Scout” by hosting our fall party at the house. Thanks to social chair Sam Parker (MU 2711), the party was a huge success boasting hundreds of students and three bands. The brothers and guests enjoyed music from Groove Fetish, Great Peacock and Flash and Trash.

Mu brothers did some incredible things this summer from internship to studying abroad check out their stories below:

John Evan Laughter (MU 2714) spent his summer interning on Capitol Hill in the Office of U.S. Senator Johnny Isakson. During his time in DC, John Evan worked with the legislative team on finance and tax law, and was immensely grateful for the opportunity to learn about the policy making process.

Brothers Fred Sager (MU 2703), Logan Chalfie (MU 2722), Jimmy McCarthy (MU 2695) and Taylor Last (MU 2727) spent their summer studying abroad in Innsbruck, Austria. While taking three classes through the University of New Orleans affiliated university, the brothers spent their time balancing work and travel. After weekly classes the brother would travel around Europe, visiting Prague, Budapest, Amsterdam and the Czech Republic. Logan and Fred even found their way to visit “Tomorrowland”, the largest live music festival in the world.

Brothers Jeff Powell (MU 2759), Shelby Edwards (MU 2742), Hank Flood (MU 2744), Michael McCarthy (MU 2755) and Jack Leoni (MU 2751) spent part of their summer backpacking through Colorado, Utah and New Mexico. The brothers spent their nights in tents while taking in the sights of the west. Check out these cool pictures below!

Brother Alex Landry (MU 2673)  spent his summer working for Tom Greene  (MU 1964) at Alliant. Alex worked in property and casualty insurance brokerage by shadowing brokers throughout the summer.
