Fellow Brothers and Alumni of Mu Chapter,
Now that we can finally end the month of March and escape the “fake” spring that the weather in Georgia loves to taunt, we can enter April with warm weather and everything covered in pollen. Here is what Mu Chapter has been up to in the month of March!

Spring Break

Beginning the month of March meant taking a much needed break from school. Here is what Mu Chapter did for spring break:
Freshman
A large group decided to land in the beautiful country of Jamaica for the break, enjoying all of the amenities that resorts had to offer. Some other noticeable vacations was brother John William Barbee (Mu 2953) traveling to Jamaica for a mission trip, as well as brother Harrison Lee (Mu 2975) traveling to Vail to ski!
Sophomores and Juniors
Many decided to travel to different places, ranging from Punta Cana in the Dominican Republic, to Cancun in Mexico. Lots of sunscreen was needed, and many may have forgotten to reapply. At least the brothers had a nice sun tan coming back into school!
Seniors
A group of seniors decided to travel down to Peru to climb the mountains and explore Machu Picchu. Endeavoring through the rain and gazing upon the ruins was more than worth the hike.

It has been an exciting year for the class of 2023 pledge class as our 40 inductees have continued to shine light on the Mu Chapter of Sigma Nu. With only six weeks left of the semester, our new pledge class has finally fully adapted to the ways of college. Many have joined clubs such as Miracle, Magellan, ESP, etc. Academically, the group has been excelling and showing how each of these classes continues to get smarter and smarter as UGA continues to get more competitive. Over half of the pledge class plans to apply to their respective majors in the coming semester, the most common being the Terry College of Business.

Woodstock Week

March 18th marked the start of one of the best weeks of the year for Mu Chapter, Woodstock Week. Brothers set up the house throughout the week to bring the party to life. Tuesday, the first fundraising event occurred for Jam for Cam, with a trivia percentage night at Woodford. The week matched up perfectly with March Madness, so Thursday, brothers gathered to watch the games before a late-night date night at the house. Hundreds of pizzas made their way around the house as a band played into the night. By Saturday, it was time for the actual Woodstock party to take place. Brothers, friends, and even some family members gathered for seven-plus hours to listen to Wim Tapley and the Cannon , Rayland Baxter, Grady Spencer and the Work, and Imanbek. Woodstock was once again a success.

UGA Baseball and Basketball

Sports for the University of Georgia have been on an incredible streak recently, with both the basketball and baseball team excelling in their respective positions. UGA basketball finished with a 20-16 overall record at the end of this season, but has advanced through teams such as Xavier, Wake Forest, and Ohio State in the NIT tournament. They are set to play Seton Hall on April 2nd.
Baseball has also been on a hot streak, starting the season 22-6. Charlie Condon (1B/Of) has lead the team this season and made a huge case for himself, batting .517 through 25 games. We hope to see Georgia baseball keep doing well and are looking forward to the rest of the season!

Backpack Project

During the month of March, our Philanthropy Chairman AJ Stevenson (Mu 2887) conducted a Backpack Project where various products and materials were organized into backpacks and then given to the Backpack Project Organization in Athens. They then disperse the bags to homeless people around the city of Athens, helping them with food, water, and many other necessities. Several brothers and friends helped make the process a success. Well done to all of those involved!

Mu Chapter Abroad

Aiden Madoff is a junior from Austin, Texas studying Finance at the Terry College of Business. He is spending this semester abroad studying and traveling throughout Europe. Aiden describes his experience so far as “I have been traveling a lot and have had the opportunity to meet some amazing people and experience some beautiful places. In the past couple months, I have traveled to London, Paris, Switzerland, Berlin, Dublin, and the highlight of my experience so far has been visiting Iceland. First of all, I have learned a ton about public transportation and how to be more independent, but I have enjoyed learning about the art of finance from the global perspective. I like the teaching/learning style while abroad as it is a lot more hands-on.” When asked about a funny/memorable moment, Aiden said “When I was at a derby in London I asked this guy for his betting pamphlet and he was actually a former jockey with his own horse in the race named “Tribal Chief” so I threw a couple pounds on his horse and Tribal Chief got dead last place.”
