Fellow Brothers and Alumni of Mu Chapter,
As we enter into the new year, we look back on memories of 2023 that we will cherish for a lifetime. Moving forward does not mean slowing down, so check out the updates below!

Brothers Over the Break

Brothers were busy over winter break with things such as travel, work, volunteering, etc. Here are some highlights of the guy’s travels.
Will Hearn (Mu 2968) – London, UK
Through his time exploring the large city of London, the Hearn family covered many famous landmarks such as Big Ben, Windsor Castle, and the London Eye. When asked about his favorite, he mentioned the Churchill War Rooms stood out the most to him.
Carson Rutledge (Mu 2938) – Costa Rica
Carson went with his family to explore the beautiful landscape of La Fortuna, Costa Rica. His favorite memory he made while on the trip was exploring the forest and surrounding nature with his brother.
A group went to Shreveport for a close friend’s Debutante ball-
Micheal Pickens,” Being with the regular group of guys I am around in Athens but exploring a different city/culture was his favorite part.”Pictured left to right: Addison Barksdale (Mu 2918), Jack Dillman (Mu 2923), Joe Callahan (Mu 2915), Rivers Carson (Mu 2913), Luke Tredennick (Mu 2914), Michael Pickens (Mu 2910), Sam Allgood (Mu 2940)

Formal

Brothers gathered on January 12th for their annual formal trip to New Orleans, LA. ‘The Big Easy’ did not disappoint. It was a great gathering for the chapter filled with great food and a fantastic formal event. Various chapter awards were announced, such as Brother of the Year, Walker Clark (Mu 2819). We’re looking forward to another great time in NOLA next year.

Ski Weekend

A group of brothers began the year in the cold mountains of Breckenridge, Colorado enjoying the slopes. The group carved through pristine trails, shared laughter around crackling fire pits, and forged unforgettable memories against the stunning backdrop of the Rocky Mountains. Although the altitude sickness may not be the most fun part of the trip, it is definitely a great annual event to put into effect.

Visiting National Headquarters

Pictured left to right: Emilio Ferrara (Mu 2815), Commander Jack Bahr (Mu 2896), Treasurer Charlie Woocher (Mu 2901)

Earlier this month, our Commander, Treasurer, and Collegiate Grand Councilman took a trip to Roanoke and Lexington Virginia to visit the national headquarters of Sigma Nu. While there, they explored the history around the Alpha chapter house at Virginia Military Institute, listened to speakers such as former United States Attorney General Bill Barr, and divided into small breakout sections with other chapters to discuss goals for the upcoming semester. It was a fantastic experience and we hope to have more of us visit in the near future!

Parents Weekend

Pictured is brother William Hearn (Mu 2968) with his mother Amy Hearn and 66th Regent/Alumni John Hearn (Mu 2000).

Parents weekend is a part of the semester that we all look forward to. With that being said, this past weekend has been a fun one. On Friday, every pledge class had their own individual events. Then on Saturday, we started the day off cheering on the evolving Georgia basketball team, unfortunately falling short against South Carolina. With our parents in attendance, Stegeman was louder than ever. To close off parents weekend, we had a wonderful cocktail party at Athens Country Club. On Sunday, we had the opportunity to spend time with our families before not seeing them again for a little while. Once again, we had a fantastic parents weekend and want to thank the Mother’s Club for putting the event together!
