Jam for Cam

Jam for Cam is Mu Chapter’s annual philanthropy concert for the fall semester.  Cameron Fearon (M2719) passed away in Fall 2018 from melanoma and his pledge class decided to create this 501c-3 non-profit in his honor.  Money raised goes to American Cancer Society, Camp Carolina, Melanoma Research Center, and The Preston Robert Tisch Brain Tumor Center.  Jam for Cam will be hosted at Southern Brewing Company on October 7th at 6:00pm.  The link to donate is https://givebutter.com/j4c2022.  If you are interested in VIP tickets or being a corporate sponsor email Michael Burnett at jmichaelbjr@gmail.com.

Speaker Series: Wells Ellenberg

On Monday, September 12th, Mu Chapter had the honor of having Wells Ellenberg (M2400) speak at our chapter to active brothers and candidates.  Wells is a former Mu Chapter Commander and now serves as the Government Affairs Director for the Southern Company.  He highlighted how his time as commander and various experiences prepared him for a successful career at the Southern Company.   Brothers were able to learn a little bit more about government relations as a potential career, and candidates were able to benefit from hearing the story of one of our many successful alumni.  Wells has spoken annually at Mu Chapter for the past several years and we appreciate how he continues to give back to the fraternity.  Thank you Wells and till next time!

Active Member Spotlight: Stone Pinson

For this spotlight, Mu Chapter would like to highlight senior brother Stone Pinson (M2855).  Stone is from Cordele, GA and since before his initiation, Stone has always been a model of entrepreneurship and hard work.  In high school, Stone started several businesses.  He started Stonewall Kennels where he breeds hardworking hunting and Stonewall Charcuterie where he produces handmade charcuterie boards and coasters.  This past summer, Stone and senior brother Josh Milam (M2830) started Stonewall Land Prep where they clear land, landscape, pressure wash, and do a variety of other outdoor work.  They were awarded the contract to pressure wash all of Barrows County Schools Systems, which amounts to over 200,000 square feet of surfaces.  We are very proud of them and expect big things in the future.  Keep up the hard work guys!

Another Great Dawgs Team

On September 3rd, the Georgia football team traveled to Atlanta to play the Oregon Ducks in Mercedes Benz Stadium, where they routed the visiting team 49-3.  Prior to the game, the Sigma Nu Brothers hosted a tailgate, along with several other IFC Chapters, outside the Stadium.  We listened to some fantastic live music performed by The Stews and enjoyed food from nearby food trucks.  The following week, we beat Samford 33-0 at home, and enjoyed another Dawgs win.  After Samford, the Dawgs traveled to Columbia to take on the South Carolina Gamecocks, beating them 48-7.  Many brothers traveled to this game, whether for the weekend or just for the game, and we made sure to live up to the mantra: “Dawgs travel”.  This past weekend we hosted Kent State at home, and, despite the slow start, we beat them 39-22.  After the game, Mu Chaper hosted the band The Ocho at the house and they played some great cover songs.  We look forward to the rest of the season, and hopefully we can end up with the same end result as last year.  Go Dawgs!

Alamo Scout

On Friday August 30th, brothers and friends from around gathered for the annual fall party to kick off the school year: Alamo Scout.  The party derives its name from a group of brave Sigma Nu Alumni who participated in a special recon mission behind enemy lines during World War II called Alamo Scout.  The night started on the back porch where brothers listened to The Wheelers who played various covers including Grateful Dead and Tom Petty. The show then moved inside where Gatusso and CrankDat got the crowd moving to their DJ. The theme of Alamo Scout is cowboys and space aliens. Brothers were dressed up from astronaut outfits to tacky cowboy uniforms. Overall, it was a great night of music and catching up with people after another great summer.

Rolling Around Athens

On Thursday, September 8th, Mu Chapter hosted a date night at the Fun Galaxy roller skating rink. Upon arriving, brothers and their dates were each given a pair of skates.  The fun lasted for several hours and everyone enjoyed the fun games and races. Despite the hectic atmosphere, everyone managed to escape the night with nothing worse than bruises, so we will definitely consider that a win!  It is safe to say, the Skating Date night will be here to stay and we all will look forward to next year!

Alumni Tailgate

Mu Chapter will host an alumni tailgate during the weekend of the Vanderbilt game on October 15th.  There will be food catered to the house and we hope to see you all there.  Additionally, Mu Chapter will be hosting our annual golf tournament, the Classic City Open, on Sunday the 16th.  We will have more details on that later.  Please email mualumnichair@gmail.com with any questions or comments

In Search of Speakers at Mu Chapter

In order to strengthen the professional development of Mu Chapter, we would like to institute a speaker series as a part of our LEAD program at Mu Chapter that will begin the Fall semester. If you or anyone you know would like to speak at Mu Chapter to discuss your career and professional development in your industry, please reach out to mualumnichair@gmail.com.
