Brothers and Alumni of Mu Chapter,As the end of October quickly approaches us, Mu Chapter begins seeing the transition of many roles within the chapter. We are excited to see the new faces starting new positions, and old ones taking on bigger roles. I’d like to thank our Alumni Relations Team for all the help they’ve been for me this past year, and close out the past year by going through the highlights of September and October.
InitiationPictured: Mu Chapter’s newest pledge classOn September 28th, the candidates for Fall PC ’25 were initiated after successfully completing the new member education process. The chapter is excited to welcome the 39 new members, who were initiated prior to Robert Durham and Michael Barry speaking to the chapter. During their process, members participated in learning the history of Sigma Nu and Mu Chapter, weekly bible study meetings, volunteering at Extra Special People (ESP), and more. Mu Chapter is excited to see the positive impact they will have on Sigma Nu. – Mac Lovein
Guest Speaker Steve GarratyPictured: Steve Garraty speaking to the chapter
On September 22, Mu Chapter had the pleasure of having alumni Steve Garraty (Mu 1996) speak at the house. Mr. Garraty recently published a book titled “Greatfruit” which has hundreds of 5 star reviews. The book details his experience battling cancer as a senior in high school, going through 10 months of chemotherapy to beat Hodgkins Lymphoma. Mr. Garraty spoke about how cancer changed his life, the process he went through in battling cancer, and the steps he took to publish his book. Attached is the link to “Greatfruit”, which I highly recommend to anyone looking for a new read. – Mac Loveinhttps://www.amazon.com/Greatfruit-Cancer-Living-More-Fruitfu…
Candidates Visit Sigma Nu HQ

Pictured: Freshman Pledge Class at Sigma Nu HQ
During the candidacy process, potential candidates had the opportunity to visit the Sigma Nu founding chapter at Virginia Military institute. The now initiated brothers spent the weekend in Lexington learning about the origins of the chapter from where it all began. Forrest Krivsky (Mu 2939) and Edwin Perrault (Mu 2988) accompanied the new guys on the trip. It was a great experience for the new initiates and a tradition we hope to continue in the future. We want to extend a big thank you to John Hearn for sponsoring this trip and making it possible for them!

Skate Night

Pictured: Chapter members celebrating Skate NightEarlier this semester, Mu chapter hosted their annual “Skate Night” date night. Brothers and their dates went all out, dressing up for the disco theme. The night started at the house with music, food, and refreshments. After an enjoyable time at the house, we headed off to the rink for two hours of roller skating. The skating ended with a five-lap senior race to conclude their last-ever skate night. Overall, it was a great night with plenty of wipe-outs and fun memories.

UGA vs. Alabama TailgatePictured: Congress the Band playing at the houseOn September 27, the Dawgs took on Alabama between the hedges, and while the outcome of the game was not exactly what we wanted, the tailgate at the Mu household was one to remember. We had Congress the Band from Charleston come play with Ian Asher, a well known DJ finish off the set ending right before kickoff. It was a great tailgate with a huge turnout. Thank you to all that helped with planning and setting up, especially our Social Chair Noah Carney (Mu 2973) and Treasurer Michael Bahr (Mu 2981).- Harrison Lee
Parents WeekendPictured (Far bottom right to left): Sam Sermonet (Mu 2992) and Walker Baird (Mu 2995) with their familiesThe weekend of October 3rd and 4th served as Parent’s weekend for Mu chapter for the fall semester. A grand time had by all, with the parents of Sigma Nu taking over Boar’s Head on Friday night after events with their son’s respective pledge classes. It was a good time filled with live music, good drinks (thanks parents), and most of all great company. To make the weekend even better the Dawgs bounced back with a big 35-14 win over Kentucky. Following the game families of Sigma Nu met back at the house where they had more live music and food. A huge thank-you goes out to all the parents who made the trip to the Classic City, your presence and energy made this year’s Parents Weekend one to remember. Mu chapter is already looking forward to the Spring!- Greyson Harper
Harrison Lee (Junior)Harrison Charles Lee was born and raised on St. Simons Island and attended Glynn Academy. Growing up surrounded by UGA alumni and Mu Chapter alumni instilled in him a strong sense of connection to both. However, his path to UGA was not typical; he initially wanted to explore options at other schools. Harrison is currently a Biology (Pre-Med) major with a minor in Business, aiming to embark on the long journey to become a physician. He holds the lasting relationships formed in Mu Chapter dear, who serve as his support system at school. For incoming freshmen, Harrison advises stepping out of their comfort zones; they have been thrown into the deep end together, and by relating to one another, they can forge friendships that will last a lifetime.Harrison’s LinkedIn:https://www.linkedin.com/in/harrison-lee-785620291/
Will Hearn (Junior)As a lifelong resident of Marietta, Georgia, Will Hearn grew up with a strong desire to attend the University of Georgia. To make this dream a reality, he attended Pope High School and actively participated in various activities to build his resume as a student and individual. Will is a Journalism student with aspirations to enter the sports media field. He currently interns for Bulldawg Illustrated, where he has already gained valuable experience by covering a variety of sporting events. Will has since taken these experiences and created a podcast with brother Matthew Herren (Mu 2980) titled “From the Interns”. One of his favorite experiences in the field includes being on the field for UGA’s win against Tennessee and Auburn. Will advises incoming freshmen to stay grounded in their beliefs and to get involved early in their college experience. Will’s LinkedIn:https://www.linkedin.com/in/will-hearn-68324a242/
Luke Payne (Junior)Luke is from Alpharetta, Georgia where he graduated from Blessed Trinity prior to coming to UGA. A Real Estate and Finance Major, Luke always knew he wanted to be a UGA student with both of his parents being alumni. His experience at Sigma Nu has opened doors for him that have resulted in many great experiences with friends as well as helping prepare for his career, as he plans to pursue commercial real estate capital markets and brokerage. Luke’s personal favorite experience was the Auburn 2024 tailgate with Futurebirds. His advice to incoming freshman would be to run your own race and not compare what you’re doing to others.Luke’s LinkedIn:http://linkedin.com/in/luke-payne-611843324/
John Avino (Sophomore)John was born and raised in Savannah, Georgia and graduated high school from Savannah Country Day. He is a Finance major and hopes to pursue investment banking in the future. John to come to UGA because of the reputation and opportunities within Terry, and has been a lifelong fan of the Dawgs. In college, he has had a great experience as a Sigma Nu serving on various committees like alumni and social committee, and will begin serving as the chapter’s Treasurer. Jam in the Streets this past March has been his favorite experience in college. A piece of advice he has for freshman is to get involved across campus in addition to Sigma Nu.John’s LinkedIn:https://www.linkedin.com/in/john-avino/
Fin Pennington (Sophomore)Raised in Homewood, Alabama and graduating from Homewood High School, Fin is a Finance major with an interest with real estate development and investment. Fin knew he wanted to challenge himself academically, and chose UGA for that opportunity as well as to meet new people. Fin’s favorite experience as a Sigma Nu was Jam in the Streets this past March, which has inspired him to continue helping Jam for Cam leadership to prepare for next March. The best piece of advice Fin would give any freshman would be to live in the moment and enjoy every second of freshman year.Fin’s LinkedIn:https://www.linkedin.com/in/fin-pennington-b3a2a9341/
Alumni Networking ProgramOne of the greatest advantages of being a part of such a highly esteemed chapter is the opportunity to connect with our alumni, who provide a helping hand in guiding current members toward their professional goals. In an effort to strengthen this relationship, a networking program has been created to give upperclassmen access to willing alumni that can be a resource for advancing their to-be careers. If you or anyone you know would be interested in being a readily available resource for the chapter, please email mualumnichair@gmail.com.
In Search of Speakers at Mu ChapterIn order to strengthen the professional development of Mu Chapter, we would like to institute a speaker series as a part of our LEAD program. If you or anyone you know would like to speak at Mu Chapter to discuss your career and professional development in your industry, please reach out to mualumnichair@gmail.com.
