| I had a good experience at Mu Chapter - what
can I do to help? |
|
| The first thing that you can do to help is make
sure that we have your current contact information. Our
website and email communication should make alumni
relations much easier to maintain, but we need to know
how to get in touch with you. Make sure you provide us
with your current contact information by filling out
this form.
Second, we need leaders to communicate our vision for a
revitalized Mu Chapter. There are numerous areas that
need your skills and time. Contact our Communication
Chairman mucommication@ugasigmanu.com
and let us know how you can help. In particular, we need
men to assist with organizing Rush events to college men
in their hometown.

 |
| Why wasn’t the house at River Road
repaired? |
|
| The House Corporation tried tirelessly for more
than 3 years to repair the House at 150 River Road. As noted
at House History
the House at River Road served for more than 50 years
(and thousands of alumni). However, the process of
inspection, re-inspection, planning and design took
years. Several active alumni spent several thousand
dollars and thousands of hours working with UGA to
design a set of construction plans that would be
acceptable to the University. In the end, however, we
were unable to reach an agreement with the University
over the presentation of acceptable construction plans.
At the point of deadlock, our alumni elected to
negotiate our way out of the land lease and create an
opportunity to rebuild Mu Chapter off-campus.
|
 |
| Did the Chapter receive any funds for the
House? |
|
| Simultaneous with the negotiations regarding the
reconstruction of the House, our alumni leadership
negotiated with UGA for the possible relinquishment of
our land lease at River Road and some sort of cash
settlement. The University initially offered Mu Chapter
$0 for the relinquishment of the lease (the lease was to
expire in 2030 and substantial clauses within the lease
made earlier termination by the University likely).
After several years (and hours) of negotiation, we were
able to agree upon a sum. These funds currently reside
in our House Corporation account and will be used to
reconstitute Mu Chapter (including temporary housing and
the acquisition of new, permanent housing). |
 |
| Is the House at 150 River Road still
standing? |
|
| No. The House at 150 River Road was demolished in
Spring 2004.
|
 |
| Was anything salvaged from the
House? |
|
| Several tons of white bricks were secured from
the House. The bricks may be available to brothers in
the near future. The Crest was also salvaged and will be
used at our new House.
|
 |
| How will Mu Chapter re-emerge? Won’t this be a
lot of work? |
|
|
Chapter will return to campus as soon as we can-
pending negotiations with UGA. Since the original
writing of this page Mu Chapter has grown to 68 active members
and contributes on campus in the areas of Academics
(the Fraternity is ranked 10th in overall GPA with the Fall 2007 Pledge
class ranked 5th), Athletics (we compete with other campus
fraternities in the areas of: Basketball, Indoor Soccer, Flag Football,
and Softball), Involvement (with a strong presence in Interfraternity Council, Student Government
Association, and other student organizations), and Philanthopy (last semester
the Fraternity was involved in over 900 hours of community service). We have made a lot of
progress; but there are ample opportunities for you to help
in this ongoing effort!
|
 |
| What is the budget for this revitalization
process? |
 |
| Estimates of our total capital needs are between
$2.5 million and $3 million. |
 |
| Where will these funds come from?
|
 |
| We expect that all of our alumni will want to
contribute to this revitalization effort in some
manner. |
 |
| Other Fraternity’s have failed with their
revitalization efforts. How can I be assured that Mu
Chapter will succeed? |
 |
| This revitalization effort will succeed with the
leadership planning and vision that has been contributed
by our alumni. In order for this effort to succeed, YOU
must help us build on the vision for Mu Chapter. Contact
the Chapter and let us know how you can help mucommunications@sigmanu.com. |
